This site will not only be the home of a community fire station but it will hold a ground-breaking life skills centre known as 'SkillZONE'. SkillZONE has been designed to help people of all ages learn about safety in general. To do this we will create 16 'risk and consequence' scenarios which visitors can experience but within a safe environment. Examples are Rail safety where visitors will sit in a train as if they are the driver going along the railtrack at speed. Using film footage we will demonstrate the risks of people running across the rails or drivers ignoring train barriers.
Likewise, in the home where Slips, Trips and Falls account for a large number of admissions to the County's A&E departments often resulting in long stays in hospital at great expense to the Health Authorities.
As this is the largest of the sites ground preparation has taken longer but now steelwork is starting to give the building its shape.
