Six reasons to become a retained firefighter in Gloucester

Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service is looking to recruit 6 retained firefighters for the new Gloucester North Fire Station being built in Churchdown.

Here are six reasons why you should consider it.

You will:

Geoff Sallis, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, said: "Apart from the six examples we have given, there are many more reasons why people should consider applying to become a retained firefighter.

You will receive first class training and use the latest fire and rescue equipment.

We are an equal opportunities employer. In Gloucestershire, over 15% of our firefighters are female; one of the highest rates in the country.

The job is challenging and can be stressful, but the sense of satisfaction and value placed on it by local people are extremely rewarding."

The new station, which is nearing completion, will improve response times to the north side of Gloucester and is close to the A40 and M5. This will mean quicker access to these routes if a serious road traffic collision occurs.

Retained firefighters must be aged over 18, be physically fit and live or work within five minutes of the station on Cheltenham Road East in Churchdown.

Two information events are taking place at the present Gloucester Fire Station on Eastern Avenue on Wednesday 25th January (6.30pm to 9pm) and Saturday 28th January (10am to 2pm). You will be able to find out more about what the role involves and talk to retained firefighters.

The new station will be open by April.
