Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service Press Release

Event for older people at Cheltenham West Fire Station

Gloucestershire County Council, its partners and community groups and organisations are celebrating older people by running free events throughout October Older people and their families are invited to come along to Cheltenham West Fire Station in Uckington this Saturday 5th October.

The drop in event runs from 10am until 2pm.

There will be information stands and demonstrations covering topics such as:

Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be available too.

Copies of the new Independent Living Guide will be available to take away. This includes helpful information and advice about local services for older people to help them to live safely and securely in their own homes for as long as they're able to.

In Gloucestershire it's no secret that we have an ageing population as people are living longer. That is why Gloucestershire County Council is keen to help people make the most of their golden years by staying fit, healthy and active and planning properly for later life.

Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for older people, said: "I invite older people living locally to come along to the fire station in Uckington from 10am this Saturday."

"There's a whole host of excellent services available for people in Gloucestershire to help them stay fit, healthy and safe and to give them the best opportunities when they're older."

"We all know how important it is to plan for later life, but we want to make it easier for people to do that. It's better to plan ahead rather than struggling on without seeing what help is available."

If you can't make it along to an event you can find all the information online at: www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/independentliving

You can also call 01452 426868 for advice on any of the events or services being publicised.
