Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service Press Release

County's Chief Fire Officer to retire from the service

Gloucestershire's Chief Fire Officer Jon Hall is retiring from the service after more than 30 years.

Jon, who has held the top post at Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) for four years, says he plans to continue working in the industry in some capacity.

He said:"This hasn't been an easy decision as fire and rescue has been my life and has given me a more rewarding career than I ever could have hoped for."

"I have had the privilege of working with many superb firefighters and support staff over the years and continue to be impressed with everyone who chooses to give service in this way. It is with very mixed feelings that I move on."

Jon, who will leave the county service on 1st February, added:"It's been a remarkable journey over the last four years and I feel that a good service is continuing to get better. I'll be watching with interest as GFRS goes from strength to strength."

"I plan to continue working in the industry and to stay in touch, but right now it's time to hang up my boots. I am proud to have ended my operational career in this fine county and know our fire crews will continue to strive for excellence in these challenging times."

Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Gloucestershire County Council cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure, said: "Jon will be sorely missed by the service, the people of Gloucestershire and by me personally. His tenure at the top has coincided with some big challenges for fire and rescue services nationally and he has never shied away from his responsibility - leading from the front with tireless energy."

"It is through Jon's leadership and the confidence he inspires in his staff that the county service is in such a strong, and much-envied, state today. I have no doubt that GFRS will continue to emulate his exceptional leadership in the future."

The council will communicate its succession plans shortly.
