Update

December 2009

We are currently updating both our Disability 2006-2009 and Race 2005-2008 Equality Schemes, with a view to amalgamating these schemes into one Single Equality Scheme.

This is being done with the new Single Equality Bill, which is currently undergoing its second reading in the House of Lords, which is expected to come into force within the next 18 months.

The Single Equality Scheme will be based around the current six equality strands of Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion/Belief and Sexual Orientation. We intend to include Transgender as a specific separate strand within the Scheme.

As a service within the wider County Council, we are working alongside our colleagues in the corporate Equalities Team to produce a Scheme which encompasses all of our employees across the whole organisation, as well as all the communities that we serve.

If you would be interested in discussing/contributing to the Single Equality Scheme with our Equality & Diversity Officer, please contact Riki Moody on: 01452 753333 or email: riki.moody@glosfire.gov.uk
