Fairness and Dignity
This policy covers all employees
and individuals who are placed with the Service on work
experience, from employment agencies, the temporary
staff register, on secondments, or any visitors to Service
premises.
Gloucestershire
Fire and Rescue Service acknowledges and embraces its
responsibility to its employees and to those whom we
serve and is committed to the equal application of employment
practices and access to service provision. The Service
is not complacent about these issues and has created
a Fairness
and Dignity Strategy to progress changes over a
3, 5 and 10 year period.

The Fairness and Dignity Policy
and the County Council's Race Equality Scheme embrace
Equal Opportunities.
Equal Opportunities is:
• Working in an environment which is free from discrimination.
• Recognising, accepting and valuing people's differences
(diversity).
• Treating each other fairly - without bias or prejudice
and free from stereotyping. This also applies to all our
recruitment, promotion and career development decisions
and to members of the community that we serve.
• Encouraging,
supporting and using all available talent and skills.
• Pulling together to ensure we have a policy that
really works.
This means that we all have a responsibility to support
the policy, ensuring we do not discriminate against colleagues,
job applicants, customers, suppliers, or members of the
community.
It is not:
• Lowering of
standards in any way.
• Pretending everyone is the same.
• Giving any group or individual an unfair advantage.
Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service also recognises
that it has to make appropriate arrangements to comply
with both the letter and the spirit of the law in respect
of all the relevant legislation. The Service will use
these laws, and other regulations and policies to seek
to eliminate discrimination and to promote equality
of opportunity and good relations between all. The Service
is also fully committed to the Gloucestershire County
Council Equal Opportunities Policy initiatives.
The Collective trade unions wholeheartedly support this
policy and representatives of recognised unions have
contributed to and approved the policy statement.
