Press Release from Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service

Work begins at state-of-the-art Fire Station

Work is about to begin on Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s new Community Fire Station in Dursley.

Progress on building the new station, in Kingshill Lane, near Rednock School, will start on Monday.

The station is a key element of the future vision for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, which is part of Gloucestershire County Council’s Community Safety Directorate.

Council engineers will be on site from Monday carrying out preliminary works and preparing the ground. When finished, the state-of-the-art facility will house three engine bays and it will be built to the highest standards.

It will serve the communities of Dursley, Cam and the surrounding areas and provide support to the remainder of the county.

The project compliments Gloucestershire County Council’s £40 million redevelopment of Rednock School and the new supermarket development in the town.

Terry Standing, Chief Fire Office, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “After many years, I am delighted that work is about to start on this exciting new community fire station.

“It will be a huge asset to the people of Dursley and the surrounding areas and provide enhanced facilities and improved training for Dursley firefighters.

“The Dursley Station ties in with our other ambitious plans for Community Fire Stations in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Uckington and is part of Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service’s vision for the future.

“The people of Gloucestershire deserve a first class service future proofing our stations will help us achieve this.”

Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Gloucestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety said: “I am very pleased that we are progressing well with this project and I welcome work beginning on the site.

“Along with the other projects it shows our continual support and investment to community safety. “I would also like to thank Rednock School for their cooperation in this project, which is a fundamental part of the developments in that area.

“I look forward to seeing the finished product and the benefits it will bring to the people of Dursley and Cam.”
