Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service Press Release
Teaching kids to stay safe

Child safety week logoChildren across the county will be getting vital safety lessons from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service this week.

National Child Safety Week starts today (22nd to 28th June), and firefighters will be going out and about around Gloucestershire educating and entertaining schoolchildren.

They will be popping into primary and pre-schools and using fun and interactive demonstrations to teach children how to stay safe - not just in relation to fires but in every day life.

National Child Safety Week is run in conjunction with the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT).

Fire and Rescue Services across the UK are being encouraged to take part to raise awareness of fire safety issues.

Chief Fire Officer Terry Standing said: “We are absolutely committed to reducing the number of children and young people who are killed, disabled or seriously injured as a result of accidents in our county.

“We want to focus on preventing death and serious injuries, not the scrapes and bruises that form part of every childhood.

“As house fires are one of the biggest killers of children in the home, promoting fire safety is an important aspect of our work, but we don’t just stop there.

“I hope that the children we visit this week, will take away some life-saving messages for them and their families.”
