What training will
I receive?
Phase 1 of your training will be undertaken at our Joint Training Centre in Avon. Here you will acquire the basic skills required to fulfill your role. This will include the use of ladders, hose running and wearing of Breathing Apparatus.
You will also learn about fire safety and the importance of communicating these messages to the community. You'll be assessed along the way to monitor your progress.
After grasping the basic skills and gaining your first aid certificate, you'll get on-the-spot experience of the searing heat, flames and thick black smoke of a real fire - controlled and fuelled in a specially designed Fire House.
The training course is residential and runs weekdays.
You will travel home on a Friday evening and travel
back to the training centre on a Sunday. After completing
the course you'll be allocated to a fire station within
the Gloucestershire area. During this phase of your
development you will be regularly assessed to ensure
you are applying your skills to a competent standard.
Training will be an ongoing process throughout your career as a firefighter and you will be expected to participate in all relevant training and contribute to your own development. We want to make sure that you can handle the ever-changing demands you might face in your job.
