Safety on Two Wheels

Main results for 2005 show that the number of motorcyclists killed decreased by 3 per cent compared to 2004. Despite this welcome drop in casualty figures, motorcycles last year represented 1% of road traffic but accounted for 18% of all fatalities. Motorcycle casualty figures remain high and with 569 motorcyclists killed and 5,939 motorcyclists seriously injured last year, there is no room for complacency.

During 2005 16,561 pedal cycle users were injured, of these 148 were killed and 2,212 suffered serious injury. This indicates a slight upward trend. For more information follow the link to the government's THINK! Road Safety advice pages for cyclists.
